Explode your Entrecard traffic

5 tips to explode your Entrecard traffic.

Here are 5 simple tips to increase your Entrecard traffic all for free.

1. Drop your card like a maniac.

Each and everytime you see an Entrecard widget which will probably happen often as more and more bloggers are adding it to their website , drop your business card.

Also, Chain drop. This method is basically having a list of URLs where all of them have Entrecard so you can come back to them each day and drop some more. Since this process is fairly long and annoying , i have managed to find a Nifty little program which is called the Entrecard Browser.

This tool is a courtesy of Joe tech. What it does is basically this: Every time you click on Next Site, you will be taken to the Entrecard page of a blogger where you can click on their link and drop your card once you find the widget.

Note: You should drop always 200 worth of ECs in a daily run . Also, this browser is still in Beta so duplicate sites might be shown and once you close it , you have to restart everything from scratch so i suggest using the tool once a day and then come back 24 hours later.

2. Finding the right business card.

The default business card you can select is a bit bland so i suggest finding a snazzy image with an even better description. Make it as short as possible while keeping it informative.

3.Buying some cheap advertising.

You can buy exposure for as low as 2 EC a day by going to the Latest Entrecard users section Just purchase any advertisements available with the lowest price possible.

Why should you make these payments you ask?

Because each and every time a new user comes in , his ad fees are set to 2 EC/day that means that if a popular blog with 100k visitors per month were to use Entrecard for the first time , his ads would still cost only 2ecs.

4. Holding contests.

Making contests that have prizes such as 1000 ecs will surely create buzz about your blog and attract a lot of Entrecard users.

I recommend asking participants to post a small post about your contest to be elegible for it so that you can gain exposure and backlinks.

5. Making the bot-like visitors stay.

Chain droppers often drop their crap then leave immediately afterwards so you need to make these buggers stay and become your audience.

There are 2 ways for this:

First, place your Entrecard near the top of your blog as the CP will be quickly annoyed if they take more than 10 seconds to find your widget. I will probably visit a bit around if i like the design of a blog and haven’t wasted much of time finding the goddamn thing.

Second, these viewers only look for one thing only: Your Entrecard widget. So where’s the best place to put something to attract them and to make stay? Anywhere very close to your Entrecard ! and what is probably the subject that will catch their eye? Anything about Entrecard of course!

Placing a hyperlink to one of your posts about something related to Entrecard like a contest or something to maximize traffic will surely bait these droppers to one of your posts.

Advertising your blog

Everyone knows how to blog so its how you advertise your blog which will increase your blog rank, PR and traffic. If you have just started your blog from scratch or are going to start one soon and if you have no intention to spend money on advertising then these free methods are just for you. The effectiveness of these methods depend on how much time you devote to them and how consistent you are.

1. Link and/or AD banner Exchanges

Try to trade links or AD banners with blogs of your same niche. Don’t try this with really good blog cos it is not going to happen. Always target blogs on your same level and as your blog keeps doing better slowly do exchanges with the best blogs.

2. Commenting on Similar Niche Blogs

This is another really important way of getting some clicks to your site. Find out the best blogs belonging to your niche. Do not by any means go and comment on a movie related blog if you own a tech blog, thats just waste of time. Your comments need to be useful and relevant to the blog post only then will people think about checking out who gave the valuable comment and most probably will end up clicking your name and go to your blog.

If you are lucky and the blog doesn’t have a ‘nofollow’ tag then you will get yourself a good backlink.

3. Pingbacks or Trackbacks

I see most bloggers don’t tend to use it that often. Adding a trackback to a site which has posted a similar topic certainly doesn’t harm your blog at all and if the trackback is approved, you have a permanent link on that blog and surely few clicks from the blog for life.

4. Social bookmarking sites

Sites like Digg, Stumble Upon, Myspace, Facebook etc can be a source for good organic traffic. It all depends on how good your post is. A attractive and catchy title will assure your post getting good stumbles and Digg. Your content should be unique else if someone sees you copied something exactly from another blog, they might give bad comments on the post and demote the value of your blog. Take a moment to check this post made earlier on Do Not Underestimate the Power of StumbleUpon

5. Regular Participation in Forums

There are lots of forums on the net and I am sure you will find many related to your niche. Be active in those forums, have your site in your signature. If you are very informative and helpful, people will take notice of you and eventually start clicking on your signature links which is exactly what you want them to do.

The above stated methods are the best effective ones, there are still many more but for a blog just started from scratch, these are the best ways to advertise your blog. Although, one must always remember the right ingredients for success in the blogging world are Original Unique Content, Attractive Blog design, a nice simple logo and a good caption for the blog.

In this post, I talked about free ways to advertise, in future posts I will talk about advertising in which money is involved.

About Traffic Rankings

A listing of all sites on the Web, sorted by traffic...

Alexa computes traffic rankings by analyzing the Web usage of millions of Alexa Toolbar users and data obtained from other, diverse traffic data sources. The information is sorted, sifted, anonymized, counted, and computed, until, finally, we get the traffic rankings shown in the Alexa service. The process is relatively complex, but if you have a need to know, please read on.

What is Traffic Rank?

The traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and data obtained from other, diverse traffic data sources, and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach). As a first step, Alexa computes the reach and number of page views for all sites on the Web on a daily basis. The main Alexa traffic rank is based on a value derived from these two quantities averaged over time (so that the rank of a site reflects both the number of users who visit that site as well as the number of pages on the site viewed by those users). The three-month change is determined by comparing the site's current rank with its rank from three months ago. For example, on July 1, the three-month change would show the difference between the rank based on traffic during the first quarter of the year and the rank based on traffic during the second quarter.

What are sites and Web hosts?

Traffic is computed for sites, which are typically defined at the domain level. For example, the Web hosts www.msn.com, carpoint.msn.com and slate.msn.com are all treated as part of the same site, because they all reside on the same domain, msn.com. An exception is blogs or personal home pages, which are treated separately if they can be automatically identified as such from the URLs in question. Also, sites which are found to be serving the same content (mirrors) are generally counted together as the same site.

What is Reach?

Reach measures the number of users. Reach is typically expressed as the percentage of all Internet users who visit a given site. So, for example, if a site like yahoo.com has a reach of 28%, this means that of all global Internet users measured by Alexa, 28% of them visit yahoo.com. Alexa's one-week and three-month average reach are measures of daily reach, averaged over the specified time period. The three-month change is determined by comparing a site's current reach with its values from three months ago.

What are Page Views?

Page views measure the number of pages viewed by site visitors. Multiple page views of the same page made by the same user on the same day are counted only once. The page views per user numbers are the average numbers of unique pages viewed per user per day by the visitors to the site. The three-month change is determined by comparing a site's current page view numbers with those from three months ago.

How Are Traffic Trend Graphs Calculated?

The Trend graph shows you a three-day moving average of the site's daily traffic rank, charted over time. The daily traffic rank reflects the traffic to the site based on data for a single day. In contrast, the main traffic rank shown in the Alexa Toolbar and elsewhere in the service is calculated from three months of aggregate traffic data.

Daily traffic rankings will sometimes benefit sites with sporadically high traffic, while the three-month traffic ranking benefits sites with consistent traffic over time. Since we feel that consistent traffic is a better indication of a site's value, we've chosen to use the three-month traffic rank to represent the site's overall popularity. We use the daily traffic rank in the Trend graphs because it allows you to see short-term fluctuations in traffic much more clearly.

It is possible for a site's three-month traffic rank to be higher than any single daily rank shown in the Trend graph. On any given day there may be many sites that temporarily shoot up in the rankings. But if a site has consistent traffic performance, it may end up with the best ranking when the traffic data are aggregated into the three-month average. A good analogy is a four-day golf tournament: if a different player comes in first at each match, but you come in second at all four matches, you can end up winning the tournament.

What is Data Normalization?

Alexa's ranking methodology corrects for a large number of potential biases and calculates the ranks accordingly. We normalize based on the geographic location of site visitors. We correct for biases in the demographic distribution of site visitors. We correct for potential biases in the data collected from our Alexa Toolbar to better represent those types of site visitors who might not use an Alexa Toolbar.

How are Movers & Shakers Calculated?

The movers and shakers list is based on changes in average reach (numbers of users). For each site on the net, we compute the average weekly reach and compare it with the average reach during previous weeks. The more significant the change, the higher the site will be on the list. The percent change shown on the Movers & Shakers list is based on the change in reach. It is important to note that the traffic rankings shown on the Movers & Shakers page are weekly traffic rankings; they are not the same as the three-month average traffic rankings shown in the other Alexa services and are not the same as the reach numbers used to generate the list.

Some Important Disclaimers

The traffic data are based on the set of toolbars that use Alexa data, which may not be a representative sample of the global Internet population. To the extent that our sample of users differs from the set of all Internet users, our traffic estimates may over- or under-estimate the actual traffic to any particular site.

In some cases traffic data may also be adversely affected by our "site" definitions. With tens of millions of hosts on the Internet, our automated procedures for determining which hosts are serving the "same" content may be incorrect and/or out-of-date. Similarly, the determinations of domains and home pages may not always be accurate.

Sites with relatively low traffic will not be accurately ranked by Alexa. Alexa's data comes from a large sample of several million Alexa Toolbar users and other traffic data sources; however, the size of the Web and concentration of users on the most popular sites make it difficult to accurately determine the ranking of sites with fewer than 1,000 monthly visitors. Generally, traffic rankings of 100,000 and above should be regarded as not reliable. Conversely, the closer a site gets to #1, the more reliable its traffic ranking becomes.
